Why You'll Love This Skillet Honey Mustard Chicken

  • This Skillet Honey Mustard Chicken is SOOO EASY! It comes together in 30 minutes or less and makes great leftovers too!
  • Honey mustard is so delicious and in my opinion underrated! I love the tanginess and sweetness that this sauce has.
  • The chicken is coated in flour making the chicken extra juicy. By coating the chicken with flour and seasoning, it helps seals in the juiciness and makes the chicken extra tender.

How To Make Skillet Honey Mustard Chicken

Start by sprinkling each side of each chicken breast with the spices evenly. Then sprinkle each side of each chicken breast with flour. There should be a little bit of flour leftover, save that for later.

In a cast iron skillet, heat olive oil on medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until the internal temperate reaches 165 degrees F, flipping halfway through.

Once the chicken is cooked, remove from the pan and set on a plate for now. In the same skillet add butter and melt. The add 1 tablespoon for the leftover flour and whisk until there are no more lumps and it is well incorporated.

At this point, add chicken broth, grainy mustard, dijon mustard and honey. Whisk all the ingredients together over medium heat until you see the sauce is thickened. Taste for salt or any other extra seasonings.

Add the chicken back to the pan and baste it in the sauce. If you find the sauce is too thick add a little bit of water at a time until you get a desired consistency. At this point you can shut the heat off on the stovetop.

Now the chicken is ready to serve with your favourite side dish. Garnish the chicken with parsley and enjoy!

Notes + Tips for Skillet Honey Mustard Chicken

  • Use grainy and dijon mustard to give it a rich flavour. I love mustard and so I used two different types. Go nuts and try out different types of mustards in this recipe.
  • If you plan on making rice or another side start that at the beginning of the cooking process. For example, put on a pot of rice while you make the Skillet Honey Mustard Chicken that way your dinner is ready all at the same time!
  • Use a heavy bottom or cast iron skillet for this recipe. Using a heavy bottom skillet will help cook the chicken evenly and give it a nice char. It’s the idea pan to use for a one-pot dinner like this.
