Start by warming milk and butter together in a heat safe bowl or mug in the microwave. Warm the milk butter mixture until the butter is just melted and the temperature reads about 100-110 degrees F.
Next, in a mixing bowl (or stand mixer) add the warmed milk butter mixture, yeast, sugar, honey, egg, and salt and whisk to combine all ingredients.
Add the bread flour and either use a kneading hook on your stand mixer to bring the dough together or you can just use your hands to bring together by adding the dough to a surface and use your hands to bring he dough into a cohesive ball.
Add the dough to a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Allow the dough to rise for 1 hour in a dry/warm space. I placed mine in the oven with the oven light on.
After 1 hour, you will see the dough has risen almost double. Take the dough out of the bowl and transfer to a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal balls. Use your hands to shape the dough into a sphere in between your palms.
Add the 12 dough balls to a greased baking dish, cover with a towel and allow to rise for an additional 1 hour.
After 1 hour, you will see that the dough balls have doubled in size. Preheat oven for 350 degrees F. Once heated, add the baking dish of dough balls into the oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until you see the tops are perfectly golden brown.
While the bread is baking, you can make the honey butter. In a small bowl add butter, honey and a pinch of salt, mix well to combine.
Once the buns are done baking, immediately spread the honey butter overtop of the buns so they melt into the bread. Optionally, sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Serve immediately with extra honey butter as an awesome side dish, snack or even breakfast! Enjoy! 🙂
