If you are a fan of turtle candies then you will love these turtle bites! The pretzel brings a sweet-salty combo combined with the chocolate, pecans, caramel sauce and salt to top it off! These are a great make-ahead treat you can bring to a dinner party or to entertain guests. These take no time to make and only take a few simple ingredients and they are soooo yummy!
The Pretzel
The base of the turtle bite is the pretzel and for this recipe I used haltered maillot pretzel that crisscrosses the front and fastens to the waistline. I recommend using these pretzels since they have 2 large spaces to add the pecans. Another pretzel you could use is the crosshatch ones, however, I do not recommend using pretzel sticksfor this recipe. You want the pretzel to have a good base since we will build the rest of the turtle bite on the pretzel.
Chocolate and Toppings
These turtle bites have milk chocolate and dark chocolate over top. Instead of using dark chocolate you could use white chocolate. Obviously, these turtle bites also have caramel sauce and pecans. Feel free to customize these bites to your liking, some other topping ideas:
White Chocolate
Sprinkles
Candy Melts
Peanuts
Walnuts
Cashews
Butterscotch Chips
Peanut Butter
Rolos
Hershey’s Kisses
Smarties or M&Ms
Caramel Candies
Making a Batch
In this recipe I created 24 pretzel turtle bites. You can half, double, triple or quadruple the recipe! Especially if you are using smaller sized pretzels I would recommend at least doubling the recipe.
These turtle bites come together in the freezer. After created, place them in the freezer for about 1 hour to firm up. I recommend keeping them in the freezer until ready to serve. Allow them to thaw for 10 minutes so they are not so hard to eat. Keeping them frozen is ideal so the caramel sauce doesn’t melt everywhere. Keep the turtle bites in a ziplock bag once they are completely frozen.
You can make them in advance and leave them in the freezer until ready to serve. I know these make a great treat for a holiday party or get-together. Keep these turtle bites no longer than 3 months in your freezer- if they even last that long! LOL 😉

Drizzle the dark chocolate over top of the milk chocolate that is on the pretzel. Repeat drizzling the dark chocolate for the rest of the pretzel bites.
Lastly, sprinkle each pretzel bite with flakey sea salt (just a pinch on each one). Place the pretzels in the freezer for 1 hour. Notes
* You can also use sea salt or regular salt, flakey salt is more of a finishing salt used for desserts.
