Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Butter, softned
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt

Icing Sugar Glaze (Optional):

  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Milk
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Food Colouring
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes. If you want to add sprinkles, gently press them onto the cookies before placing them on the baking sheet.
  • Place the cut cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Icing Sugar Glaze:

  • In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more sugar for thickness or more milk for thinning.
  • If you want coloured icing, divide the icing into bowls and add food colouring of your choice to each bowl.
  • Once the cookies are completely cooled, use a spoon or piping bag to drizzle or spread the icing onto the cookies. Top with sprinkles of choice if you prefer.
  • Allow the icing to set before storing or serving the cookies. Enjoy! :)
