INGREDIENTS NEEDED
- Unsalted Butter: The key ingredient that provides a rich and buttery flavour to the cookies, contributing to their chewy texture.
- Granulated Sugar: Adds sweetness to the cookie dough, helping to create a soft and tender texture while also aiding in browning during baking.
- Brown Sugar: Offers a deeper, caramel-like sweetness and moisture to the cookies, enhancing their chewiness and contributing to their delightful flavour.
- Large Eggs: Act as a binding agent in the dough, helping to hold the ingredients together while also providing moisture and structure.
- Vanilla Extract: Infuses the cookies with a warm and inviting vanilla flavor that complements the other ingredients, making the cookies more aromatic and delicious.
- All-Purpose Flour: Serves as the main dry ingredient and acts as a binder to hold the cookie dough together. It provides structure to the cookies.
- Baking Soda: Helps the cookies rise and spread during baking by reacting with the acidic ingredients, resulting in a desirable texture.
- Salt: Enhances the overall flavour of the cookies, balancing the sweetness and bringing out the various tastes of the toffee, pretzels, and chocolate.
- Toffee Bits: Add a delightful toffee flavour and a slightly crunchy texture to the cookies, contributing to their irresistible sweetness.

HOW TO MAKE TOFFEE PRETZEL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix until well combined.
Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gently fold in the toffee bits, crushed pretzels, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and milk chocolate chips until evenly distributed in the dough.
Using a 1/4 cup cookie scoop or by hand, form the dough into equal-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Leave enough space between the cookies as they will spread during baking. You may need to bake in batches.
Add one pretzel on top of each cookie dough ball. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centres are set. The cookies should still be soft.
Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy! 🙂
VIC'S QUICK TIPS FOR TOFFEE PRETZEL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
- Butter Browning Technique (Optional): When browning the butter, be patient and stir frequently. It should turn a golden brown colour with a nutty aroma, which adds a delightful depth of flavour to the cookies. Be careful not to overcook it; burnt butter can negatively affect the taste.
- Ingredient Distribution: When folding in the toffee bits, crushed pretzels, and chocolate chips, ensure they are evenly distributed in the dough. This will ensure that each cookie has a balanced mix of sweet and salty elements.
- Proper Cookie Spacing: Leave adequate space between the cookie dough balls on the baking sheets since the cookies will spread during baking. This helps to prevent them from sticking together.
- Checking Doneness: Bake the cookies until the edges are golden brown and the centres are set, but the cookies should still be soft. They will continue to firm up as they cool. Avoid over-baking, as this can result in dry cookies.
- Cooling Time: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This step helps the cookies set and maintain their desired texture.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS & STORING
- Freshly Baked Enjoyment: These cookies are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven when they are still warm and the chocolate is gooey. They make a delightful treat for holiday gatherings or dessert.
- Milk Pairing: Serve these cookies with a glass of cold milk for a classic and comforting combination. The milk helps balance the sweetness and complements the flavours.
- Holiday Dessert: As mentioned, these cookies have a Christmas-inspired touch. They make a perfect dessert to celebrate the holiday season with friends and family.
- Airtight Container: To store leftover cookies, place them in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. This helps maintain their freshness and prevents them from becoming stale.
- Room Temperature: These cookies can be stored at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. Make sure the container is sealed properly to keep them soft and chewy.
- Freezing: If you want to store them for a longer period, you can freeze the cookies. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag. They can be stored in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. Thaw at room temperature when ready to enjoy.
INGREDIENT SUBSTITUTIONS & VARIATIONS
- Vegan Butter: Substitute the unsalted butter with an equal amount of vegan butter or margarine to make the cookies dairy-free.
- Egg Replacer: Replace the eggs with a suitable egg replacer, like flax eggs or applesauce, to create vegan-friendly cookies.
- Non-Dairy Chocolate Chips: Use dairy-free chocolate chips or chunks instead of regular chocolate chips to maintain a vegan recipe.
- Gluten-Free Flour: Replace the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend, such as one made from rice flour, tapioca starch, and potato starch, for a gluten-free version.
- Certified Gluten-Free Pretzels: Ensure that the pretzels used are certified gluten-free to avoid cross-contamination if you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.
- Nutty Crunch: If you love the idea of adding a delightful nutty crunch to your cookies, consider incorporating chopped pecans, walnuts, or your favorite nuts. Mix in about 1/2 to 1 cup of chopped nuts along with the other mix-ins for a nutty twist to the recipe.
- Enhancing Flavour with Brown Butter: To elevate the flavour profile of your cookies, take the extra step of browning the butter. Simply follow the instructions to brown the butter in a small saucepan until it develops a golden hue and a nutty aroma. This adds a rich, caramelized dimension to your cookies, making them even more irresistible.
