20-Minute Cranberry Sauce

Tart cranberries are sweetened with spices and sugar for our cranberry sauce that is the perfect addition to your holiday meal. This cranberry sauce is made with only a few simple ingredients. It will take you 20 minutes to make and WAY better than canned cranberry sauce. This sauce is so fresh and has hints of orange, allspice and cinnamon.

Make Ahead

The great thing about this sauce is you can make it in advance. I would actually recommend making it at least the night before so the cranberry sauce can thicken even m0re. I stored my sauce in a mason jar to keep it extra fresh. Wait until the sauce is at a room temperature to place it in the fridge.

Cloves & Cinnamon

This recipe calls for 1/8 tsp of ground cloves and a cinnamon stick to infuse some warm flavour into the sauce. It is optionally to use ground cloves and cinnamon if you are not a fan. Other warm spices you could use instead:

  • Allspice
  • Ginger
  • Nutmeg

Thickening of the Sauce

As mentioned, as this cranberry sauce cooks down it will thicken also as it cools it will thicken as well. If you prefer your cranberry sauce thicker I would recommend adding a cornstarch slurry. Mix 1 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water. Add this slurry to the pot while the cranberry sauce is cooking this will help make the sauce thicker.

The Ingredients You Need...

  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Orange Juice
  • 1 1/2 Cups Fresh Cranberries
  • 1/2 Orange, Zested
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1/8 Tsp Ground Cloves
  • Pinch Salt

Method:

Step 1:

Add water, sugar, cinnamon, salt and cloves to a medium pot. Bring to a light boil.

Step 2:

Add orange zest, orange juice and cranberries.

Step 3:

Boil the cranberry sauce for about 10-15 minutes and you will see the cranberry sauce thicken. Remove the cinnamon stick once the sauce is cooked. Allow the sauce to cool.

Step 4:

Allow the cranberry sauce to cool and then it is ready for serving! Enjoy! 🙂
